Theater and a Little Dance

As much as Lauryn loves cheering, she loves dance so much more. She loves dancing and watching others dance, making this weekend a perfect combination of both for her. On Friday, we went to see Hairspray. She has loved that show since the movie came out with Zac Efron so much so that she has gone to sleep to "Welcome to the 60s" for well over 2 years. When we were able to go and see the play, she was over the moon with excitement.

The show was fantastic but Lauryn's favorite part was likely seeing the actors at the end of the show. She took pictures and got autographs with several of the actors.

On Saturday, Lauryn attended the local high school's drill team clinic. The high school girls taught them the dance and then performed for the p
arents at the end of the day. Next Friday, Lauryn will be dancing at the half time show with the drill team and other clinic attendees. More pictures to follow, I promise!!!

Reconnecting

Over twenty years ago, I was in middle school in Colorado. We moved to Texas in a time where email, cell phones, facebook, and free long distance did not exist, making maintaining friendships difficult. On a few occasions, some friends from Denver came to Texas to visit but over time, we simply fell apart.

Recently, my dear friend from middle school, Becky, reached out to me because her family also lives in Houston. She was going to be in the area and hoped to get together. As fate would have it, her parents live in the same area of Houston and have for 15 years!

I was nervous seeing Becky after so much time had passed. What do you talk about? Would we still have that bond we did oh so many years ago? It felt like a first date...

The great thing about old friends is that when time passes, you are able to reconnect as though time has stood still. We ate dinner and laughed at our silly, younger selves. Becky even brought ridiculously old pictures of us - complete with big gla
sses, braces, and big hair. We had so much fun and I can not wait to see her again in a few months!

Major roadblock

I went back to work the first week of August and haven't blogged since. Working full time and juggling Lauryn's dance schedule definitely slows down the blogging... So, in order to cover a large amount of time in just a few words, buckle up!

Lauryn has returned to school. She started the year slightly apprehensive because she was not in class with her closest friends. There were a few girls she knew and seeing them at meet the teacher definitely made the transition a little easier. We simply can't believe how big she has gotten!

We have been dancing, dancing, dancing. Lauryn is doing ballet, jazz, and tap. She auditioned for and received a role in the Nutcracker. Lauryn will be a gingerbread this year and can hardly contain her excitement. This also adds two hours of dance into our week.

In addition to dance, Lauryn was cheering again , this time for our friends' 6th grade son. She loves cheering, unfortunately, this season may be short-lived for her because dance has been conflicting with practices and now games.

Our dear tree in the back yard came down recently. It had been sick and finally, we accepted that it was going to die. Tom found someone to remove it and I mourned the loss. We have since replaced it with a disappearing fountain and a magnolia tree. Although I miss the beautiful, old tree, I am thrilled with how the yard turned out.

Finally, going back to work signifies the return of football season. Go Cowboys!
