Getting in touch with our inner Goose

Today, we toured the USS Midway. This aircraft carrier has a long history of battle and we spent over 2 hours listening to an audio tour of the ship with personal stories interspersed throughout. One of the first things we noticed was that Tom is way too tall to be a sailor. Although he only hit his head twice, he spent a large portion of time hunched over so as not to make contact again.

Lauryn did a great job climbing up and down all of the stairs and narrow walkways. She was amazed by the small spaces that the sailors slept in and the tiny lockers and spaces under their beds for storing personal supplies. The planes also captivated her - she crawled into as many of the cockpits as she possibly could. All the while she was in the planes, I wondered where Goose and Maverick were... When we toured the area that the pilots prepared for missions, I still didn't see them. I love Goose. Too bad he wasn't hanging around.

On a side note, Tom did notice something about me while touring the Midway. I was the only person on the entire ship in heels. Yep, I toured the USS Midway in 4 inch platforms. However, on shore by the ship, there was a large statue of a military serviceman embracing his love and she had heels on, too.
